In Novoshakhtinsk, Rostov region, which was attacked by a drone at night, the alert system failed to activate because the air defense systems engaged with aerial targets and there was no threat to the population. This was reported by the head of the city administration, Sergey Bondarenko, on his Telegram channel.
According to him, many areas of the Rostov region, including Novoshakhtinsk, have been subjected to a massive assault by the Armed Forces of Ukraine since yesterday. Local residents are expressing widespread outrage over the city's alert system not functioning.
“The 'Air Raid Alert' signal is activated only when there is a real threat to the civilian population,” Bondarenko explained.
On the night of December 19, several dozen drones and three missiles attacked the Rostov region. Air defense forces were deployed to protect Taganrog, Bataisk, Rostov, Shakhty, Kamensk, Millerovo, and Novoshakhtinsk.
The majority of the drones and missiles were neutralized; however, a fire occurred at the Novoshakhtinsk oil products plant. Additionally, as a result of debris falling from a UAV, one person was injured near Rostov.
Earlier, a cheap method to combat drones was identified.
