The city court of Stary Oskol in the Belgorod region sentenced Russian mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Ivan Emelianenko to one year and six months in prison. This was reported by the athlete's lawyer, Sergey Karpeev, to "Match TV."
The athlete was found guilty under part 1 of article 111 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Intentional infliction of serious harm to health"). The fighter's team plans to appeal the verdict.
Earlier, promoter Vladimir Khryunov mentioned that Ivan Emelianenko intervened on behalf of a woman in Stary Oskol. He struck his opponent several times, leading to injuries.
Ivan Emelianenko is the younger brother of mixed martial arts fighters Alexander and Fedor. He is a master of sports in combat sambo. In May 2023, the athlete made his MMA debut, winning by unanimous decision against Alexey Ledenyov at the "REN TV Fight Club" tournament.
