The football Super League, which has been rebranded as the Union League, has revealed the expected participants of the tournament. The press release was issued by the organizing company A22.
A22 has submitted a request to the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) for official recognition of the tournament. The competition will involve teams from all 55 national associations of UEFA. Consequently, Russian teams will also have the opportunity to participate in the tournament.
A total of 96 clubs will compete in each edition of the Union League, divided into four divisions. The top two divisions will feature 16 teams each, while the remaining divisions will host 32 teams each.
The announcement of the Super League's creation was made in April 2021. It was intended to include 12 top European clubs. However, just a few days later, the project was put on hold due to opposition from the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) and UEFA. Later, the actions of these organizations against the establishment of the Super League were deemed illegal.
